Winners of Gandhian Challenge announced by NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog announced the winners of the Gandhian Challenge conducted by Atal Innovation Missions, Niti Aayog in association with UNICEF and MyGov.

niti-aayog-gandhian-challenge-body-imageNITI Aayog has announced the top 30 winners of the Gandhian Challenge. Conducted by Atal Innovation Missions, NITI Aayog in association with UNICEF and MyGov, the Gandhian Challenge was organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The participants had to find innovative solutions based on the Gandhian principals as part of the challenge for the challenges of the new world which includes global warming, increasing violence, and intolerance.

The Gandhian Challenge was conducted for the students of classes 6 to 12 in two categories which are Arts and Innovation and Science and Technology and Innovation. Close to 3,800 children and 3000 Atal Tinkering Lab Schools along with Community Schools participated in the Gandhian Challenge conducted which encouraged the children to read and understand Mahatma Gandhi’s principals and also apply them in coming up with innovative solutions for the new world challenges.

The highlighting innovative ideas submitted by the students included design of low-cost mechanical equipment to clear the blockage in sewage pipes easing the work of the sewage workers. Another innovative idea was the use of IoT solutions to monitor the health of aging parents which can be accessed remotely via a mobile app.

Mission Director AIM, NITI Aayog – R Ramanan said that the Gandhian challenge was for stimulating the creativity and innovative thinking of every student in arts, science or technology. the challenges proved that the children are extremely observant about the pain and problems around them and also think out of the box to provide solutions to the problems.

The Gandhian Challenge coincided with the global celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). World leaders on November 20, 1989, united for a common cause and adopted the CRC which is an international agreement on childhood which helped in transforming the lives of children. November 20, is celebrated as World Children’s Day every year.

UNICEF India Representative Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque congratulated the winners stating that the Gandhian Challenge is a fitting celebration of Article 12 of CRC which guarantees every child their right to be heard, participate and play a role in the civic life of the society.

The winners of the Gandhian Challenge will be awarded certificates by the Mission Director – AIM, UNICEF Representative on India and the CEO of MyGov.
