Students stage a protest as BHU Firm on Muslim Professor for Sanskrit
It has been two weeks since the students enforced lockout at the Sahitya wing of the Sanskrit Vidya Charm Vijnan at BHU has refused to mellow down over the appointment of Firoze Khan as an assistant professor.
A group of students of the Sanskrit literature from the last 12 days has been protesting outside the office of the BHU Vice-Chancellor Rakesh Bhatnagar demanding that Professor Khan’s appointment be cancelled and fresh recruitment be conducted. Protesting students have been reciting hymns and even carried out a yagna stating that they will not budge until their demands are met with.
One of the protestors said that they are not fighting against someone from any particular religion but they are against the fact that things are not happening according to the tradition. They are against the professors' appointment to the particular unit of the university as it is not a normal department but it is the Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnan Sankya which teaches culture and not just the language. The students have said that the professor can teach at the Department of Sanskrit but not in the Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnan Sankya.
