Admission 2024-25: Universities and Higher Education Institutions will now be allowed to offer admissions twice a year. UGC Chief Jagadesh Kumar while speaking to the media stated that the University Grants Commission has given the go-ahead for the plan. The admission cycles will be July-August and January-February of the 2024-25 academic session.

The UGC chief, while speaking to the media mentioned that if Universities can offer admission twice a year it will benefit students especially those who misused admissions to a university in the July-August session due to delays in the announcement of the board exam results, health issues or any other personal issued.

He further added that the bi-annual university admissions will also help students to maintain motivation since they do not have to wait a whole year to be admitted if they miss the current cycle. With admissions being held twice industries can also conduct campus recruitments twice a year improving employment opportunities for graduates.

The UGC chairman also explained that the biannual admissions will enable higher education institutes to plan their resource distributions such as faculty, labs, classrooms and support services efficiently which can result in better functional flow within the university.

Universities across the world already follow the bi-annual admission systems and if the Indian higher education institutions adopt the same, our universities can also enhance their international collaborations and student exchange programmes.

Institutions adopting biannual admissions need to work on administrative intricacies, good planning for increased use of available resources and provide seamless support systems for the transition of students' admission in both sessions of the year. Institutions must maximise the usefulness of biannual admissions only when they sufficiently prepare faculty members, staff, and students for the transition.
