Kerala Higher Education Department issues new order asking universities to conduct remaining examinations as per their schedule

The Kerala State Higher Education Department has withdrawn its initial order which prescribed an examination schedule for the universities in the state in the post-COVID-19 lockdown period. According to the new order release the department has stated that the universities in the state are free to decide on the dates of the examinations to be conducted as per the situation of the place after the lockdown is lifted in the area. 

According to the notification released initially by the department, it had been stated that the government has issued directions encouraging the universities to conduct the remaining examinations from May 11, 2020, onwards after following the safety precautions laid down by the Health Department to contain the spread of COVID-19.

According to the new notification, it has been stated that the universities can conduct the remaining examinations as per their convenience. The notification states that the Government has received several requests from students and parents to conduct the remaining university examinations after the Flight and Train Services are resumed back to normal in the country. In this case, the universities are free to decide on an examination time table for the remaining examinations after May 3, 2020, when the transportation services are expected to resume back to normal post the lockdown is lifted.  

According to media reports, Kerala Higher Education Minister  KT Kaleel has clarified to the media that the only intention of the government with the initial notification was to advise the universities to prepare themselves for setting May 11 as a tentative date for conducting the remaining university examinations. 

The new order issued is in clarification from the government since the old one received complaints that it encourages universities to make arrangements for the examinations to be conducted from May 11, 2020.
