JEE Main Session 1 Exam 2024: The National Testing Agency has released a notification containing the data on the distribution of students in each shift of the JEE Main Session 1 exam. The JEE Main session 1 exam was held in multiple shifts for the BTech BE, BArch, and BPlan programmes from January 24 to February 1. 2024. The data provided shows the number of students allotted in each shift. The notification was released after several students took to social media alleging errors in percentile calculation and uneven distribution of candidates in each exam shift.
NTA in the notification released mentioned that the JEE Main 2024 session 1 exams were conducted from January 24 to February 1, 2024, in 544 exam centres in 291 cities out of which 21 were abroad. The session was held in 10 shifts 2 shifts on each exam day. Despite the number of student registrations increasing up to 1221624 as compared to 860064 in 2023.

Distribution of Candidates in Each Shift
Regarding the distribution of candidates, NTA mentioned that the distribution was done as per the normalization procedure to make it homogenous based on the report of the committee experts including reputed professors from the Indian Statistics Institute, IISc and IITs in November 2018 and reviewed in October 2020.
As per the notification, the date/shift/slot of the exam is allotted randomly by the computer as per the normalization process. The number of students who have appeared in each shift is given below.

JEE Main Percentile Score
The percentile score indicates the percentage of students who have secured equal to or below (Same or lower raw scores) a particular percentile in the exam. The toppers of each shift will get the same percentile. The formula to convert the score is given below.
