Beginning with the 2025–2026 academic year, Delhi University (DU) is thinking of allocating one place in each postgraduate (PG) program for single girl children. The Academic Council will debate the proposal during its meeting on Friday, December 27, 2024.

DU already provides a similar reservation for undergraduate admissions, which started in the 2023-24 session. This year, 764 students from 69 colleges were admitted under this program.

DU Takes Admission Through CUET

DU conducts postgraduate admissions through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). Last year, over 90,000 students competed for 13,500 PG seats.

Seat Reservation System in DU Colleges

If the new proposal is approved, the reservation will apply to all 77 PG programs offered by the university. DU also reserves seats for other categories, such as sports, persons with disabilities (PwD), children and widows of Armed Forces personnel, and orphaned children.

Aim of Single Girl Child Reservation

Officials explained that this initiative aims to support single girl children in pursuing higher education by providing additional opportunities.

DU also has seats set aside for other groups, such as sports, people with disabilities (PwD), children and widows of members of the armed forces, and orphaned children, in addition to this new initiative. According to officials, by providing more support, the initiative hopes to inspire single girls to seek higher education.

71,000 Quota Seats Available in DU Colleges

The goal of Delhi University's single-girl child quota in undergraduate programs this year is to increase efforts to support and offer high-quality education for girls. 71,000 seats are available under this quota system, which covers 69 colleges and departments.
