CBSE Guidelines For SHRESHTA Scheme 2023-24: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a circular stating the guidelines for the implementation of the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA) 2023-24 in all CBSE-affiliated private schools. 

The scheme is run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), under the Government of India for scheduled caste students and applies only to private residential schools affiliated to the board up to class 12. The scheme applicable until 2026 aims to provide residential educational opportunities to meritorious students belonging to the Scheduled Caste Category.

Who Can Avail SHRESHTA 2023-24 Scheme?

As per the circular issued by MoSJE, the applicable schools are expected to adhere to the following points:

• SHRESHTA 2023-24 scheme applies only to CBSE-affiliated private residential schools. The relevant schools must be in operation for 5 years or more and must have had a pass percentage of 75% or more in Class 10 and 12 in the last 3 years.
• Schools must have adequate infrastructure for admitting additional at least 10 SC students in Class 9 and 10 (together) and the school’s status must be a residential one as per OASIS data. 
• The applicable students will be given entry in Classes 9 and 11.
• The official notice stated that every year about 3000 students are selected under the scheme through the National Entrance Test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
• Allocation of schools for students is done by web counselling process as per their merit and choices. 

School Selection For SHRESHTA 2023-24 Scheme

The schools that get selected by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE) for the scheme are required to provide the year-wise and grade-wise numbers of students admitted on their website. CBSE directed the schools to ensure that they meet the said criteria while giving their consent for the scheme to DoSJE.

Interested schools may send their consent directly to the responsible department. Once the consent is approved by the designated department, the schools cannot refuse the allotted students.
