
The Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar has announced that the decision to reopen the schools in the state will be taken after July 5, 2020. He added that parents have asked the education department to re-open schools in the state only after August/September 2020. The minister has further stated that the online classes will not be conducted for the LKG and UKG students adding that the schools must interact with the students over the phone twice a week.
The Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Department has issued a schedule for the online classes for the students from 1 to Class 10 students. The schedule has been released close to the time of Karnataka HC asking the department to allow online classes for the students from KG to class 5. According to Karnataka Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar, the Centre has laid down guidelines for the students from classes 1 to 10. As per the guidelines and what has been done in the past, an expert committee has been formed and once the committee submits the recommendations, a decision will be made for the next course of action.
According to the schedule released, the students from class 1 to 5 will two live sessions for a duration of 30 to 45 minutes on alternate days of the week. For the students from class 6 to 8, two live sessions will be conducted for 30 to 45 minutes for five days a week. The students from class 9 and 10 will have 4 live sessions for 30 to 45 minutes five days a week. It has also been mentioned that no extra fee should be charged from the students for conducting the online classes.
Earlier the Karnataka Education Department had stated that online classes will not be conducted for the students in the state during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
