West Bengal state government has allowed the reopening of schools for Primary, Upper Primary classes. According to the latest order issued by state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bengal Schools will reopen from tomorrow - February 16, 2022. Schools for the students from class 8 to 12 were already reopened from February 3, 2022, along with the colleges in West Bengal.
The decision to reopen the schools for the students was announced on February 14, 2022, considering the improving COVID situation in the state. Schools for the Junior classes in Bengal will be opening after over two years of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schools in West Bengal have been ordered to follow all the COVID protocols strictly along with the Standard Operating Procedure issued by the Bengal School Education Department.
West Bengal Lockdown Curfew
According to media reports, the West Bengal government has extended the lockdown restrictions until February 28, 2022, and the government has also asked the ICDS Centres to open on the same day. Night curfew on the movement of people, vehicles along public gatherings have been reduced by an hour and will now be from midnight to 5 AM.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has stated that the decision to reopen the schools for the junior classes will only be taken after fully evaluating the COVID situation. Students and school authorities are also required to follow the COVID protocols and minimize the spread of infection.
WB CM has also stated that after the evaluation, it is found that the variant is not much of a concern, then schools will be allowed to reopen for the junior classes as per the SOPS.
