Tamil Nadu School Holiday: Due to the heavy rain forecast, schools in Chennai will remain closed today: November 12, 2024. Students must utilise this time to do self-study at home. Meanwhile, a downpour is expected in many areas including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, etc.
“In light of the heavy rain forecast, a holiday has been declared for all schools in Chennai today,” ANI quoted District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade saying.
Tamil Nadu School Holiday: Which Areas Will be Impacted by Heavy Rain?
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain is expected to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Villuppuram districts, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Puducherry, and Karaikal area.
Tamil Nadu School Holiday: IMD Issues Yellow Alerts Until 15 to 81 Districts
IMD has issued a yellow alert to a total of 12 districts on November 12, 2024, 17 districts on November 13, 2024, 27 districts on November 14, 2024, and lastly, 25 districts on November 15, 2024.
Chennai and its neighboring areas (Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpet) will receive a heavy downpour (6cm to 12cm in 24 hours) over isolated places till November 15, as a low-pressure area, formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal, might move towards Tamil Nadu/Sri Lanka in upcoming two days.
As per the IMD bulletin, "For the next 48 hours, the city and the suburbs may receive moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over some areas. Skies may be partly cloudy. Maximum temperature is likely to be around 32C-33C and minimum temperature is likely to be around 25C.’’
