TN Rainfall: The Tamil Nadu state government has declared a holiday today, December 18, 2023, for schools, colleges and other educational institutions in four districts. Schools will remain closed in districts like Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi due to heavy rainfall.
According to the India Meteorological Department several parts of Tamil Nadu will witness heavy rainfall in the next seven days. It is also likely to rain heavily in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Toothukudi, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Thanjavur districts. According to reports, 40 lakes in the Kovilpatti area have reached their full capacity due to continuous rainfall.
IMD predictions state heavy rainfall in one or two places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi. The districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram are expected to experience heavy rain tomorrow, December 19, 2023. The IMD has also predicts chances of thunderstorms and lightning in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on December 19, 2023. The districts of Kovilpatti, Kalugumalai, Kayathar, Ettayapuram, Vilathikulam, Kadambur, Vembar, Surangudi have been receiving continuous rainfall since Sunday morning.
As per reports, rivers and lakes surrounding Kovilpatti are overflowing due to intense rain. Sandbags and JCB machines have also been employed to block water after the river in Koosalipatti and Inam Maniyachi districts started to overflow due to heavy rainfall.
