Open Doors Report 2019 Released: US Embassy held a media event at the Fulbright House, USIEF in New Delhi on 18th November 2019 – Monday to formally release the Open Doors Report 2019 – an annual statistical survey on international students in the United States. The Open Doors Report 2019 has shown a positive growth in terms of the number of Indian students studying in the US. The event was attended by Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs Charisse Phillips and First Secretary Public Affairs Karl Adam who shared the key highlights of the report. They were joined by recent U.S. University alumni who shared their experience and answered queries related to Studying in the United States.
Open Doors Report 2019 – Key Takeaways
According to the Open Doors Report 2019 on International Educational Exchange which was released today, the number of Indian students studying in the United States of America has increased by 3 percent over the last year. This feat also marks the sixth consecutive year that the total number of Indian students who are pursuing their higher education in the US has grown.
Statistical Highlights
As per the Open Doors Report 2019, the number of overseas students studying in the US has shown marginal positive growth of 0.05% taking the overall number to 1,095,229 international students. However, in terms of Indian Students studying in the US, the number has grown for the 6th consecutive year, dominated by growth in students opting for Non-Degree studies and OPT. US also continues to be most preferred destination for Indian students studying abroad as per UNESCO Report.

As per the Open Doors Report, Indians make up to 18 percent of the international student community in the US and the country provided the second highest number of graduate students jumping up to third place in undergraduates.

The US Embassy’s Ministry Counselor for Consular Affairs, Charisse Phillip while speaking at the United States India Educational Foundation (USIEF) said that the student exchange between both the countries will help in strengthening the foundation based on which the strategic partnership is built. She added that the Indian students are looking for great education and the US offers the best return on their investment.
First Secretary of Cultural Affairs, Karl Adam while speaking at the event said that the education system in the US offers practical application and experience which also given any graduate an advantage in the job market. He also added that the US wants to help Indian students by providing them with credible and official information regarding studying in the US, which is why they have seven EducationUSA advising centres across India and also a free mobile app – EducationUSA India which is now available on iOS and Android phones.
