The Rajasthan State Education Department has started the SMILE project to make sure there is continuity of learning for the students and teachers during the COVID-19 lockdown across the state. The SMILE project also known as the Social Media Interface for earning Engagement is a reinforcement of the Rajasthan Government’s commitment to impart education for the students studying in the schools, says state education minister Govind Singh Dotasra.

According to the project details provided, over 20,000 WhatsApp groups are being created in order to send the study materials to the students and teachers. In a tweet, the education minister said that the state has believed and demonstrated its belief in strengthening the education system of the state over the past year. He also added that the Project SMILE is a reinforcement of the commitment of the state in imparting education for the students studying in the schools of the state.

On the other hand, the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has also announced the assessment scheme which will be followed for declaring the class 9 and 11 results for the state. The board is also providing a one-time relaxation for promoting students to the next grade due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

The decision regarding the promotion of class 9 and 11 students will be made on the basis of their performance in three nit tests and the half-yearly examination conducted along with the co-curricular activities and their all-round performance in the academic year.

According to the reports, the students who are promoted to the next grade will be able to access the study material through the SMILE programme. The students will be taught online and will be assigned assessment work via a digital platform.

However, the students from classes 1 to 8 will be promoted to the next class directly without any examination by the board. The board is also preparing the format for the passing certificate for the students of class 5 to 8 and all the other classes. The procedure that requires promoting and admitting students to the next class will be done online. The board is also preparing e-content for all the classes and the teaching process will continue in the online mode and the teachers and officers will be available accordingly.
