Odisha Govt cuts Tuition Fee: Keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic and the hardships faced by students and parents, the Odisha State Government has announced reduction of tuition fees in all aided and unaided private schools in the state. The reduction in the school tuition fee has been implemented for academic session 2020-21 in the wake of the pandemic situation. The news about reduction in the tuition fees by schools was confirmed by Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash on Tuesday. The decision to slash tuition fee was taken by the state government based on a High Court directive which asked the government to reduce the fees in all aided and unaided private schools for the 2020-21 academic session
Tuition Fee to be Reduced in Slabs
Going by the official announcement, the tuition fees in Odisha for both aided and unaided private schools, will be undergo changes in different slabs. As per the details shared by the Education Minister, there will be no waiver for schools charging Rs 6,000 per annum, those charging between Rs 6,001 to Rs 12,001 will reduce the tuition fee by 7.5 per cent. On similar lines, 12% reduction for tuition fees between Rs 12,001 and Rs 24, 000 annually, 15 per cent for fees between Rs 24,001 to Rs 48,000, 20 per cent for school tuition fees of Rs 48,001 to Rs 72,000, 25 per cent for Rs 72,001 to Rs 1 lakh fees and 26 per cent for fees above Rs 1 lakh per annum, the official notification confirmed.

In addition to the reduction in the tuition fee, the education department has also said that schools cannot charge students for food and transport. However, a 30 per cent waiver will be given on hostel fees, the notification said.
Earlier in the month, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that waiver of examination fees of Class 10 students or Matric students. The waiver of exam fee for Matric Exams is likely to benefit a total of 6 lakh students. This decision is expected to cost the state government Rs 27 crore.
