On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister requesting the Central Government to provide a timeline for the 2020-21 academic session as well as Board exams. With schools continued to be closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Minister wrote seeking clarity on the timeframe for conducting the Class 1o Board and Higher Secondary examinations for 2020-21 so that students in Classes 10 and 12 can prepare for the same.
The Letter to the Prime Minister
CM Patnaik, in his letter to PM Modi, wrote that Students in Classes 10 and 12, as well as their parents, are in a state of uncertainty in absence of clarity on the academic session and conduct of Standard 10 and 12 examinations. The Chief Minister wrote that this has caused anxiety among all. He further wrote in his letter that with all competitive entrance examinations and admissions of students in institutions of higher education interlinked, national guidelines along with tentative timelines will help the various states informing an appropriate strategy. He said in his letter this will also help all the students to make preparations for the examinations accordingly.
Closure of Educational Institutes in Odisha
The Chief Minister also mentioned in his letter to the Prime Minister that educational institutes in the state have been closed since 17th March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic. He added that the State Government, after consultation and discussion with various stakeholders and experts and keeping in view of the security and safety of the students, has decided to keep the educational institutions in the state closed until 31st December 2020.
