CBME Guidelines 2024: The National Medical Commission has issued new guidelines for Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) in MBBS. As per the guidelines, the new curriculum will begin the first session of the National Exit Test (NExT) from the 2024-25 academic year.

As per the CBME guidelines, NMC has proposed for the next step 1 exams for newly admitted students to be held in March 2029. The NExt Step 2 will be held after students complete their internship in March 2030. The proposed NExT exams will be held as per the guidelines issued.

CBME Guidelines 2024: University Examination 

The CBME guidelines mention the phases for the university examinations. Check the details below.

  1. Phase I shall be held at the end of Phase I training (in the 12th month of that training), in the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. 
  2. Phase II examination shall be held at the end of Phase II training (12th month of that training), in the subjects of Pathology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology.
  3. Phase III Part 1 examination shall be held at the end of Phase III Part 1 of training (12th month of that training) in the subjects of Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology. 
  4. Phase III Part 2 / National Exit Test (NExT) as per NExT regulations- (Final Professional) examination shall be at the end of the 17th / 18th month of that training, in the subjects of General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and allied subjects as per NExT Regulations. 

CBME Guidelines: Criteria for Passing in a Subject

According to the guidelines, candidates must obtain a score of 50% marks in the Universitexaminedng theory and practical and not less than 40% separately in The and in ton order to be declared as passed in that subject. In subjects that have two papers, the candidate must secure a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate (both theory papers together)
