The University Grants Commission (UGC) has discontinued the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree. Since MPhil is not a recognised degree now, UGC is cautioning students against pursuing it. The authorities have also released an official notification asking the students to not enroll in this particular programme from any university.
The notice was issued after UGC witnessed that some universities are still inviting fresh applications for the MPhil programme. It should be noted that Regulation No. 14 of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2022 clearly states that Higher Educational Institutions shall not offer M.Phil. program.
