Maharashtra Board Exam 2025: As per reports, the Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has reduced the passing marks for the Maths and Science subjects in class 10 board exams. The board is set to lower the marks from 35 to 20 for students to be considered as passed in both these subjects. The decision to lower the passing marks has been taken in the new State Curriculum Framework-School Education (SCF – SE) for Class 10.

The board will pass students despite lower marks, however, it will not allow them to pursue higher education in Maths and Science. The certificates of the students will mention ‘Pass’ but will prevent them from taking up Science and Maths subjects in class 11 or for higher education.

The decision to lower the passing marks will provide students with greater flexibility to students who have scored less marks since they will have the option to move to higher classes with a note indicating lower scores or appear for the retest to improve their results.

The move to reduce the passing marks for Maths and Science subjects aims to reduce the dropout rate among students who fail to achieve minimum marks in the class 10 exams and take up subjects like Humanities and Arts.

According to reports, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education have noted that the changes made in the passing marks will be introduced when the new curriculum is implemented. Reports state that the new curriculum framework has already been approved by the school education department and the changes have been made to ensure students are not pushed unfairly out of the system.
