Karnataka Colleges to Reopen Today: In line with the announcement made by the Karnataka State Government, Colleges and University in the state will reopen from today i.e. from 17th November 2020 – Tuesday. In-person classes will resume for college students from today onwards amid strict COVID restrictions after nearly 7 months due to the pandemic. Earlier, the state government had issued directions allowing reopening of degree, engineering and diploma colleges from Tuesday in line with the Unlock Guidelines issued by the Central Government.

Medical Colleges to Reopen from 1st December

While degree, engineering and diploma colleges have been permitted to hold in-person classes for students amid strict adherence to all the guidelines and SOPs for COVID-19 protection; the state government has also permitted reopening of medical, dental, paramedical, nursing and AYUSH colleges in the state from 1st December 2020 onwards. On the other hand, so far, the state government has not taken any concrete decision for reopening of schools and pre-university colleges in the state.

Negative RT-PCR Test Mandatory

Among the many strict guidelines put into place to ensure protection of students and teachers after the reopening of colleges, one of the most important ones is mandatory COVID negative tests. All students and teachers who wish to attend in-person classes from tomorrow, will need to produce a negative RT-PCR test report. In addition to this, students will also have to submit a no-objection certificate by their parents, permitting their wards to attend regular classes. In line with the guidelines, the colleges and higher education institutions across the state have started getting the college premises sanitized and also put in place the necessary protocols for social distancing, spaced seating arrangements, among others. Moreover, colleges have been asked to form a task force consisting of teachers, staff and students to ensure that the regulations are strictly adhered to.
