
COVID-19 Surge: As per the recent updates, amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, 67 individuals, including 31 students, of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last ten days. During the last 10 days, 892 COVID-19 tests of faculty members, students, staff, community members, contractual staff were conducted, of which 67 tested positive.
Of the total 67 active cases in the IIM-A campus, 31 are students, eight faculty members, two on-campus, and eight off-campus staff members, and 18 community members.
Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) Dashboard
As per the IIM-A's dashboard, which displays the number of tests conducted and the number of positive cases per day, the samples of all seven returned positive on Monday. The dashboard was set up on 1st September 2020. Since September 2020, a total of 532 people have tested positive for coronavirus at the IIM-A campus, of which 465 have recovered. The dashboard was set up on September 1, 2020. A large number of cases are of students. Since September 2020, 9,171 tests have been conducted at IIM-A, as per the dashboard.
Decision To Close Schools in Gujarat
Meanwhile, after witnessing a surge in the COVID-19 cases, the state government of Gujarat announced its decision to close the schools up to Class 9. However, schools have received directions to continue online classes to curb academic loss. The Gujarat government announced that there will be no in-person classes at school for students from Class 1 to Class 9 until 31st January 2022.
The decision has been taken to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state, and for the protection of students. The online classes, however, will continue without any disturbance.
Post-Graduate Courses as well as Competitive Exams
The state government, in its decision, further stated that coaching centers for students Class 9 upwards and those for post-graduate courses as well as competitive exams can run at 50 percent capacity. The government also urged people to follow COVID-19 protocol, wear masks, follow social distancing, avoid gatherings, in order to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
COVID-19 Cases in Gujarat
Gujarat is also witnessing a surge in the COVID-19 cases along with some cases of the new highly infectious Omicron variant. According to the latest data update, Gujarat reported 6,097 COVID-19 cases so far, taking the state's tally to 8,68,301. The death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the state has gone up to touch 10,130.
