The Human Resources Development Ministry has called a meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education to discuss the proceedings of the new National Education Policy. As per reports, the HRD Minister and education ministers from all the states will be a part of the meeting which is considered to be an important educational advisory body of the government.

According to reports sources from the department have stated that they wish to give a final shape to the education policy by the end of October. The meeting to be conducted will have discussions on the education policy. The sources also claim that when the draft education policy was put in the public domain, the ministry received over 2 lakh suggestions and feedbacks.

The new National Education Policy was a part of the present governments' manifesto ahead of its 2014 general election campaign. The present national education policy was framed in 1986 with a revision introduced in 1992. The draft for the new national education policy was made by a panel headed by former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan which was then put in the public domain for feedback and suggestions.

The drafting experts considered the report of the panel headed by former cabinet secretary T S R Subramanian and former HRD Minister when it was being headed by Smriti Irani. Some of the top recommendations include including the Indian Knowledge systems in the curriculum, constituting a National Education Commission, renaming the MHRD as the Ministry of Education and reducing arbitrary fee hikes by private schools.

The National Education Policy draft also suggests that the students must be allowed to take aboard examination in a given subject in whichever semester they take the corresponding class in schools which indirectly means whenever the student is ready to appear for the examination. The NEP has also called for a policy to allow the students to repeat the subjects in the board examinations if they want to study and do better.
