Guidelines issued for education of migrant children

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has issued guidelines for the education of migrant children across the country. The government will be identifying the school going underprivileged children as part of the initiative whose studies were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The government will be enrolling such students for online classes or help them with the physical classes.

Guidelines issued for the education of migrant children

As part of the guidelines issued for the children the government will be identifying Out of School Children (OsSC) and Children with Special Needs (CWSN) between the age of 6 to 18 with the help of the school teachers and volunteers which will be conducted based on research and door to door survey. The Out of School Children and Children with Special Needs will be educated through home-based classes and non-residential training with the help of the community.

The government will also be conducting enrollment drives for the students in the beginning of the academic year as part of the School Chalo Abhiyaan and Praveshotsav which will include maintaining attendance registers for the students in order to ensure regularity in the attendance of the students.

Awareness regarding COVID-19 including wearing masks, using hand sanitizers, and maintaining social distancing inside school premises will be ensured. The students will also be provided with counselling to help them during the online classes and ripening of the schools.

The Education Ministry will also be promoting the use of online NISHTHA training modules which will be available on the DIKSHA portal to provide reading material for the students although internet access to migrant students has not yet been assured. The government has also relaxed the detention rules for the students to reduce the dropout rates among the students.
