Delhi University to Get Campus in East Delhi: As per media reports, the University of Delhi is planning to setup a dedicated campus in East Delhi, which would be the varsity’s 3rd dedicated campus after North and South Campuses. The plan to setup East Campus of Delhi University are being chalked out to create more opportunities of higher education and to decrease, as per the details shared by university officials. Along with this, having a third campus in East Delhi will also help alleviate some of the administrative burden that currently North and South Campuses of the varsity deals with.
News Confirmed by DU’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor
The news about plans to setup a third dedicated campus for the university were confirmed by Delhi University’s pro-Vice Chancellor Mr PC Joshi, who is also currently the acting Vice Chancellor of the University. Speaking to a leading media agency recently, Mr Joshi noted that ““We have land in east Delhi and we are trying to develop that into a campus, just like we have a North and a South campus. We want to have a campus in east Delhi also. The university’s high-powered committee has recently inspected the site and we are holding a meeting on Wednesday to discuss this. We will then take the matter to other statutory bodies of the university for their approval.”
Project to Estimated to Cost Rs 600 Crore
In the interaction, Mr Joshi also mentioned that the East Delhi Campus is being planned on similar scale to that of the existing ones with plans of setting up new law centers and departments for liberal arts courses. He also added that currently varsity has land in the Surajmal Vihar area of east Delhi, adjacent to the Karkardooma district courts complex. After being ready, the campus will be accessible to the students via both Blue and Red Lines of Delhi Metro. Speaking about the cost of the new campus, Mr Joshi said that the project to setup East Delhi Campus of Delhi University is estimated to cost Rs 600 crore. Currently, the university’s administration is trying to make provisions for the necessary funds for the execution of the project.
