DU Admission 2021: The University of Delhi has approved admission to UG and PG entrance exams based on Entrance Exam as the DU’s Executive Council has approved CUCET to be implemented from next year. The Executive Council of Delhi University approved adopting of Central Universities Common Entrance Test for admission undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes on 17th December 2021. Executive Council is one of the highest decision making statutory bodies of DU. Earlier, the academic council had approved the proposal for the entrance examination on 10th December 2021.
Merit-Based Cut-off System to be Abandoned
With the adoption of CUCET for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programme, the university will give-up merit-based admission system based on cut-offs. The decision to adopt entrance exam-based admission system for DU Admissions was adopted following this year’s high admission cut-offs. For 2021 admissions, the cut-offs for more than 10 courses were 100%. Amid the high cut-off released by DU, the recommendation about the entrance examination was made by a nine-member panel headed by Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh.
CUCET Adopted to Ensure Objectivity in Admission Process
According to the official statement issued by the 9-member panel adopted by the Delhi University, the adoption of CUCET comes as part of the varsity’s decision for admission of candidates with the aim to ensure objectivity. During the discussion about the adoption of CUCET, two dissent votes were also received out of the total 9 votes. The dissent note regarding the entrance exam has been signed by Sima Das and advocate Ashok Aggarwal. Going by the official announcement, the entrance exam would be conducted by DU's internal agency through an appropriate mode or through an external agency.
