Delhi Government asks Schools to sensitise students and parents about Cyber threats

Delhi state government has asked the schools in the capital to sensitise the students and parents about Cyberbullying and online threats and how to protect the children from its risks. Guidelines issued by the central government for safety of the students.

Delhi state government has asked the schools in the capital to sensitize the students and parents about Cyberbullying and online threats and how to protect the children from its risks. The teaching and learning activities have been shifted to the online mode due to the CVID-19 pandemic and lockdown which was imposed in March 2020. 

The Directorate of Education in a letter issued has stated that the internet space is growing and data security, privacy, and protection are inadequate to keep track of the students. The letter further stated that it is important that everyone is aware of the risks which could arise with being connected to the internet. The students are required to be warned against the risks and it is important for the schools to ensure that every possible step is taken towards giving the children safe spaces to learn, keeping their innocence, and catering to their curiosity in a non-harmful way. 

Study by India Child Protection Fund

The Directorate pointed out a study conducted by the India Child Protection Fund regarding the online exploitation of children and the increase in the activities related to child sexual abuse material innovation a sharp rise in the demand for online child pornography during the lockdown. Keeping this in mind the directorate has stated that it is important to make children and parents aware of the safe use of the internet. The Directorate has asked the schools to refer to the guidelines issued on safe online learning in times of COVID-19 jointly developed by NCERT and UNESCO. 

Guidelines issued by Union Education Minister

The Union Education minister also released a set of guidelines aimed to sanitize the digital space and ensure that teachers, students, and parents are safe. The guidelines inform students about cyberbullying, the dos and don'ts of cyberspace along with briefs on the laws in the country to protect students and parents in case of any mishappenings. 

Counter cyberbullying practices along with helpline numbers are also provided to contact in case of any incidents. 

The DoE has also asked the heads of schools to share the information with teachers, students, and parents via SMS or WhatsApp groups or by any other means.
