CUET UG Admissions 2024: The University Grants Commission will be allowed to conduct their entrance exams for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to fill up vacant seats after admissions. UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar made the statement on social media while speaking about the admissions through CUET.

In the statement, the UGC Chief mentioned that universities have been provided with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to use the CUET Scores including multiple rounds. In case of unfilled seats after several rounds of counselling and relaxation of eligibility, universities can conduct separate entrance test at their level to fill up the vacant seats.

The UGC Chairman stated that seats remain vacant in some of the Central Universities even after three or four rounds of counselling. Keeping the seats vacant for the entire academic year is a waste of resources and a denial of quality higher education to many students who aspire to pursue higher studies in Central Universities.

CUET will be the primary eligibility criteria for admitting students although universities can hold exams to consider the marks to admit students and fill up seats.

Universities across the country have been admitting students to their UG and PG programmes through the CUET exams which were first introduced in 2022.
