The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2025 for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions will see significant changes following a review by an expert panel, according to University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar.

The UGC has formed a committee of experts to assess and enhance the CUET-UG and CUET-PG exam process based on feedback from previous years. "Based on the feedback from the past years, it is also essential to continuously improve the examination process to provide a better, more efficient, and conducive environment for students taking CUET. In this spirit, the UGC has constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET-UG and CUET-PG for 2025," Kumar told PTI.

Key Changes in CUET 2025

CUET-UG Returns to Computer-Based Test (CBT) Mode

  • The exam was earlier conducted in hybrid mode, but from 2025 onwards, it will be exclusively held in CBT format for better reliability and security.

Flexibility in Subject Selection

  • Candidates will be allowed to opt for any subject in CUET-UG, even if they haven't studied it in Class 12.
  • This move aims to break rigid disciplinary boundaries in higher education and provide students with more academic flexibility.

Review of Exam Structure

  • The expert panel has examined aspects like the number of papers, duration, syllabus alignment, and logistical challenges to enhance the exam experience.
  • The changes proposed by the panel have been approved by the UGC.

Why Were These Changes Introduced?

The first edition of CUET-UG in 2022 faced technical glitches and required score normalization due to multiple shifts. In 2024, the exam was conducted in hybrid mode, but it was canceled across Delhi just a night before due to logistical reasons. Learning from these challenges, the NTA and UGC aim to make CUET 2025 smoother and more secure.
