Keeping in mind the issues related to COVID-19 and its impact, the Central Board of Secondary Education will provide the students of Class 9 and 11 who could not manage to pass with a second opportunity. According to a statement released by CBSE all such students will be given an opportunity to pass the exam by means of appearing in a re-test conducted by the respective schools.
The official statement by the Board reads that it has decided to provide the students who failed in Class 9 and 11 an opportunity to pass the exam keeping the requests of the students and parents in mind. The notice also reads that the decision taken by the Board is a one-time measure in situation as extraordinary as this. The tests for students who failed in Class 9 and 11 will be school-based. The notice further said that opportunity for the re-test has been extended to all the students irrespective of whether their examinations have been completed by their respective schools and the exam results have been released or their schools have not conducted the exams as yet. The Board said that it is extending the facility to the students irrespective of number of subjects and attempts. The opportunity for re-test includes Class 9 and 11 students of Navodaya Vidyalayas, Kendriaya Vidyalayas, State/UT government schools, private schools as well as schools located in India and abroad.
The decision comes after the CBSE released a statement earlier citing the examination process for Class 9 and 11 students. In the Board’s statement released on 1st April 2020, it had said that while several CBSE affiliated schools have completed the examination, evaluation and promotion of students in Class 9 and 11, there are several other schools that have not been able to do the same. The CBSE, earlier had decided to promote the students of Class 9 and 11 on the basis of internal assessments. This included projects assigned in school, periodic tests, term exams, etc. held so far.
