Assam Schools Closed: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced that Schools in the State will remain closed for students of upto Class 5 across the state as part of the new COVID-19 restrictions. In addition to state-wise restrictions, schools for upto Class 8 students have been ordered to be shut-down in the state capital Guwahati to safe guard primary class students. The order regarding school closures will be applicable from tomorrow i.e. 8th January 2022 – Saturday. As of now, school closures for primary class students will remain in force until month-end i.e. until 30th January 2022. The order will be applicable to both Government as well as Private Schools in the state.

Announcement by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

With spike in number of COVID-19 cases throughout the country, announcement regarding closure of schools in Assam was expected by students and parents. In fact, rumours and speculations were already doing the rounds about closure of schools in the coming days To clear any misinformation and avoid any confusion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself took upon the mantle to announce the decision in a press conference. In the press meet, Mr Sarma said “All schools up to class 5 will be closed down in the entire Assam up to January 30. In Guwahati, schools will be closed up to Class 8.”

Rotational 3-day Offline Classes for Class 9, 10 and 11 Students

With schools being closed for Primary Students, the state government has also ordered rotational offline classes for Class 9, Class 10 and Class 11 students from this week onwards. Students of higher classes will be asked to attend offline or physical classes at school campus thrice a week on rotational basis to ensure social distancing. For Class 12 students, offline classes have been asked to continue full time, with no change in time or frequency, as they have Assam HS Exam 2022 coming up soon. Furthermore, Mr Sarma also added that as far as offline classes are concerned, there would be no change in the school hours. He has also directed officials from to release an official notification to fix school timings for Classes 9, 10 and 11.
